Best Mobile Phone Data Providers for B2B Sales Teams

Sales teams often lose valuable time calling inaccurate mobile phone numbers from contact databases. It's frustrating to call an inaccurate phone number or the wrong person picks up.

In our endless quest to help you save time (and Clay data credits!), we partnered with TitanX to test over 9,806 mobile numbers to find the best combination of accuracy and cost across North America, Europe, and APAC. Our data test focused on three key areas:

  • Accuracy: When you dial a number, how likely are you to actually reach your intended recipient?
  • Coverage: Which provider produced the most mobile numbers for prospects, both in sheer volume and across different regions?
  • Budget: Which provider offers the best price per mobile number, and saves your sales team the most time in the long run?
  • We recommend using mobile phone data waterfalls to get best combination price and coverage. However, if you're choosing just one provider, we'll guide you to the best fit.

    TL;DR

    • We tested 9,806 mobile numbers across 10 B2B data providers in NAMER, EMEA, and APAC. Only 23% were verified high-propensity (P1 or "Good") numbers.
    • Forager leads on accuracy across all regions. Nimbler is the budget pick for NAMER. Leadmagic wins on cost in EMEA and APAC. ContactOut has the widest global coverage.
    • Using a waterfall enrichment approach across multiple providers consistently outperforms relying on any single source for both coverage and cost efficiency.
    • Provider quality scores vary by region and industry. Match your waterfall order to your target market for best results.

How we tested mobile phone data providers

We started by amassing over 6,000 B2B contacts across North America (NAMER), Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), and the Asia Pacific (APAC). We then enriched these contacts by running them through the following B2B data providers:

  • Forager
  • Nimbler
  • Wiza
  • Datagma
  • Leadmagic
  • RocketReach
  • People Data Labs
  • ContactOut
  • Findymail
  • Prospeo
  • After enriching our contact data, we received 9,806 mobile numbers. Seeing as different providers may offer different phone numbers for a single contact, we then sifted through this list to extract only unique combinations of mobile numbers and full names.

From there, we measured each provider's coverage based on the quantity of numbers they delivered for each region.

💡Pro tip: Data coverage can vary not only from region to region but also from industry to industry. While we didn't evaluate coverage based on industry in this particular report, this is still something you should take into account as you search for providers that will help you to connect with prospects that meet your ideal customer profile (ICP).

    Testing & Scoring Phone Numbers

We partnered with TitanX (formerly Phone Ready Leads) to implement their proprietary scoring algorithm for numbers across the NAMER and EMEA regions. For scoring numbers in the APAC region, we partnered with an offshore team who verified calls using the comprehensive method outlined below.

    NAMER & EMEA

TitanX kicked off our evaluation by implementing their proprietary Titan Scoring algorithm, which includes both manual cold calling as well as an evaluation of 11 other data signals over the course of four days. Think of this algorithm as a form of intent data lead scoring; it not only verifies mobile numbers, but also offers one of the following weighted scores for each number:

  • P1 mobile numbers are not only verified, but they also lead to contacts that have a high propensity for picking up the phone. Due to these two factors, P1 numbers are likely to connect you with your intended contact at least 25% of the time.
  • P2 mobile numbers are also verified, but they lead to contacts with a lower propensity to answer calls. This means that the mobile number may only connect you with your intended contact around 4-10% of the time.
  • P3 mobile numbers are unverified, and lead to contacts with a very low propensity to answer the phone. They have a connection rate that's usually under 1%.
  • Mobile numbers that "need attention" are usually inactive, disconnected, and/or belong to the wrong person. Naturally, they have a 0% connection rate and you should continue enriching with other providers to find the right number.
  • TitanX approached scoring this way to address the dreaded "Right Name, Wrong Person" problem. This occurs when data appears to be accurate on the surface, but actually belongs to a different person with the same name. TitanX's process catches these mix-ups, ensuring you don't waste time calling John Smith the professor when you're trying to reach John Smith the CEO. This level of accuracy is crucial for effective prospecting and targeted marketing campaigns.

TitanX Benchmarks for Scoring Mobile Numbers

After scoring mobile numbers with TitanX, here's the formula we used to standardize the quality score for each provider:

This formula assumes that P2 is half the quality of P1, and that P3 is a quarter of the quality of P1. "NA" scores, or mobile numbers that "Need attention," have a completely negative impact.

💡Did you know? With our upcoming integration, you'll be able to harness the power of TitanX without leaving your Clay workbook.

    APAC

For our APAC contacts, we took a slightly different approach. Our offshore team called each number at least five times, or until we reached a deterministic outcome, like a number being out of service, or a person with a different name picking up the phone. This hands-on method helped us to assign the following scores to each of the mobile numbers in our dataset:

  • Good phone numbers are verified by contacts answering the phone and confirming their name. They can also be verified by a voicemail mentioning the contact's name.
  • Unverified phone numbers led to calls that went completely unanswered, or did not have a voicemail mentioning the contact's name.
  • Bad phone numbers were out of service, or led to calls where the wrong contact picked up. These numbers should be removed from your contact lists to maintain data quality and optimize your sales process.
  • Similar to our formula for the NAMER and EMEA scores, we used the following to calculate the quality score for each provider:

This formula assumes that unverified phone numbers are a quarter of the quality of good phone numbers, and that bad phone numbers have a completely negative impact.

    Calculating Budget & Costs

We calculated each provider's cost per quality mobile number according to the value of Clay data credits you'd need to purchase it.

However, the dollar amount isn't the only thing that you should include in your budget; there's also the efficiency factor. If a sales team is stuck using unverified numbers, they might waste precious hours on unproductive calls. Taking this under consideration, we also factored potential time savings into our findings.

    Results & Analysis

After enriching 6,000 contacts, we found 9,806 mobile numbers. Only 23% of those numbers were deemed to be P1 or "Good" numbers. (Remember: These are verified numbers for contacts who have a high propensity for answering calls.)

This number may be lower than expected, but shows why it's essential to reference each provider's quality score before buying. By choosing a provider with more accurate, actionable data, you'll be better able to prioritize your sales reps' time so that they don't have to keep getting stuck at voicemail.

In fact, TitanX found that by using providers with more verified mobile numbers, sales reps can have up to 5X more conversations every hour, thereby significantly improving their sales process and lead generation efforts.

Best B2B mobile phone data providers: accuracy, coverage, and cost

We've crunched the numbers, made the calls, and identified the leaders in B2B mobile numbers according to accuracy, budget, and coverage across NAMER, EMEA, and APAC regions.

    Best Accuracy: Forager

Forager leads in accuracy across all regions, with their 970 verified numbers achieving strong quality scores across NAMER (46%), EMEA (38%), and APAC (59%). As a reminder, quality scores represent the likelihood of reaching the right person when you dial a number.

Forager's dual strength in accuracy and volume makes it a powerhouse for sales teams that are targeting businesses around the globe. Whether you're prospecting in familiar markets or expanding into new territories, Forager provides the tools to connect with decision-makers effectively.

Best For Your Budget: Nimbler & Leadmagic

Nimbler and Leadmagic both deliver impressive value in their respective regions, proving that quality data doesn't require a hefty price tag.

Best For Your Budget in NAMER: Nimbler

Nimbler stands out with its remarkably competitive pricing at just 5 cents per P1/P2 number in North America. This price point makes it particularly attractive for startups and growing sales teams who need to optimize their budget without sacrificing data quality.

Best For Your Budget in EMEA & APAC: Leadmagic

Leadmagic offers compelling value in both EMEA and APAC regions, costing only 22 cents and 18 cents per region, respectively. Leadmagic's consistent pricing across both EMEA and APAC also gives sales teams the option to scale their prospecting efforts seamlessly across regions.

    Best Global Coverage: ContactOut

ContactOut has an edge in global mobile number volume, finding 2,878 numbers across NAMER, EMEA, and APAC regions (which is nearly 50% coverage globally, based on our original 6,000 contacts).

This vast coverage is invaluable for marketing campaigns and sales strategies targeting multiple regions or expanding into new markets, especially when combined with other tools in your tech stack. Here are a few more providers that stand out for their regional coverage:

Best NAMER Coverage: ContactOut, Findymail, and RocketReach

Across the NAMER region, ContactOut returned 1,679 mobile numbers, followed closely by Findymail with 1,620 numbers and RocketReach with 1,600 numbers. This consistently high coverage means that sales teams can reliably find mobile numbers for most of their North American prospects. If one provider doesn't find the number you're looking for, odds are that the other two will be able to help.

Best EMEA Coverage: Prospeo, Forager, and Datagma

Prospeo is the frontrunner in EMEA, uncovering 881 mobile numbers. Forager follows with 813 mobile numbers, and Datagma rounds out the top three with 730 mobile numbers. These additional verified numbers increase your chances of connecting with key decision-makers and exceeding your sales targets in the region.

Best APAC Coverage: ContactOut, Datagma, and Forager

ContactOut demonstrates the widest coverage in APAC with 713 mobile numbers. Datagma's 491 mobile numbers and Forager's 437 mobile numbers also show respectable coverage in this region. In the fast-paced APAC market, this broader reach means your team can spend more time in meetings instead of manually finding contact details.

How to use Clay to get the most from your B2B mobile phone data

Clay offers several innovative solutions to maximize your outreach efforts while minimizing costs. Let's explore how you can leverage Clay's powerful features to enhance your sales and marketing strategies.

    Combine Several Data Sources

Gone are the days of juggling multiple B2B contact database providers. Clay's waterfall method allows you to:

  • Access 100+ data sources through a single, user-friendly platform
  • Reduce portal fatigue
  • Maximize data quality and coverage without manual effort
  • Now that you know the benefits, read on for our proven approach to implementing waterfall enrichment.

    Waterfall Multiple Data Providers

Clay's waterfall approach allows you to cascade through multiple data sources, ensuring you get the best possible data without going over budget. For budget-conscious sales teams, this means stretching resources further and potentially reaching more high-quality prospects than with any single provider.

Here's a suggested waterfall order, along with our rationale:

  • Start strong with high-accuracy providers like Forager, Prospeo and Leadmagic to build a foundation of quality contacts.
  • Expand your reach with volume players such as Datagma or People Data Labs.
  • Fill regional gaps using specialists like RocketReach, Findymail, and Nimbler.
  • Capture remaining high-quality contacts with budget-friendly options like Nimbler and Leadmagic.

Best Practices For Turning Your B2B Contacts Into Business Growth

High-quality data is an essential component to winning sales strategies. But just having the data isn't enough; you also have to know the right way to leverage it.

Here are some best practices for making the most of your data:

  • Embrace a multi-pronged approach: As our study shows, different providers excel in different areas. You'll get the most value and save the most time by waterfalling multiple databases.
  • Quality over quantity: While it's tempting to focus on sheer numbers, we recommend prioritizing accuracy. A smaller list of highly qualified leads often yields better results than a vast sea of uncertain prospects.
  • Personalization is key: Generic outreach has become a thing of the past. Enrich your mobile number data to craft personalized, value-driven messages that speak directly to your prospects' pain points.
  • Continuous refinement: Ensure that your team regularly audits and updates your contact lists, and don't hesitate to adjust your strategy based on performance metrics.
  • Embrace technology, but don't forget the human touch: B2B sales is about building relationships. Use technology to facilitate, not replace, genuine human connections.
  • As we move forward in this data-rich era, the businesses that can effectively blend data intelligence with authentic relationships will be the businesses that thrive. By leveraging the insights from top B2B contact databases and adopting a strategic, thoughtful approach to outreach, you're not just filling a pipeline. You're laying the groundwork for lasting relationships and sustainable growth.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Which B2B mobile phone data provider is the most accurate?

Forager leads on accuracy across all regions tested, with quality scores of 46% in NAMER, 38% in EMEA, and 59% in APAC. These scores represent the likelihood of reaching the right person when you dial a number.

Which provider offers the best value for budget-conscious sales teams?

It depends on your target region. For NAMER, Nimbler is the standout at just 5 cents per P1/P2 number. For EMEA and APAC, Leadmagic wins on cost at 22 cents and 18 cents per number, respectively.

How do I choose between using one provider versus multiple providers?

The data strongly favors a waterfall approach. No single provider dominates on accuracy, coverage, and cost simultaneously. Running contacts through multiple providers in sequence gives you better coverage and lets you prioritize quality numbers first without blowing your budget.

What does a quality score actually mean for mobile phone data?

Quality scores reflect both number verification and the contact's propensity to answer calls. A P1 number connects you with the right person at least 25% of the time. P2 numbers connect around 4-10% of the time. P3 numbers are unverified with under 1% connection rates. Numbers flagged as "need attention" have a 0% connection rate.

Does mobile phone data coverage vary by industry?

Yes. Coverage varies not only by region but also by industry. This test evaluated coverage by region only. When selecting providers, factor in whether their database is strong in your specific target industries and ICP, not just your target geography.
